WorldStar Award 2021 for MonoFlow(re) of Schur Flexibles
Wiener Neudorf, February 11, 2021 - Courage, innovative strength and expertise in sustainability are key factors in the success of the rethink initiative by Schur Flexibles and they have once again received recognition: the recyclable flow wrap alternative MonoFlow(re) has been awarded the prestigious WorldStar Award 2021 in the category Packaging Materials & Components.
Having already received the 2020 German Packaging Award, MonoFlow(re) is now gaining the highest level of international recognition. "Since last year MonoFlow(re) has successfully been used by customers and I am very pleased that its quality has now also been recognised by international specialists from the packaging industry," says Fritz Humer, CSO of Schur Flexibles. "The WorldStar Award goes to our entire team of packaging specialists, market professionals and sustainability experts. I am very proud of this joint achievement," he adds.
The WorldStar Award: the Oscar of packaging
Every year since 1970 the World Packaging Organization (WPO) has been honouring the most innovative international trends in the packaging industry with the WorldStar Award. The WPO thus makes a significant contribution to raising awareness of the importance of the packaging sector and highlighting its commitment to sustainability, hygiene and more. Only products that have already received a regional packaging award may apply. This year 345 companies from 35 countries took part in the WorldStar Award, and the coveted prize was presented in 16 categories.
MonoFlow(re): the sustainable flow wrap alternative for sensitive products
MonoFlow(re) PXC, classified as having “excellent recyclability”, is one of the most successful products that were developed as part of the Schur Flexibles rethink initiative. MonoFlow(re) PXC is a highly transparent, fully recyclable PP flow wrap film with a high barrier, making it ideal not only for sensitive products such as fresh meat and cold cuts, but also for cheese or fresh pasta. By switching from conventional tray or thermoformed packaging to MonoFlow(re), manufacturers can save up to 70% of plastic. The final packaging is characterised by lower weight and less plastic use. This also optimises energy consumption and space requirements during manufacture, storage and transport. Demonstrating all-round efficiency, MonoFlow(re) PXC offers oxygen and moisture barriers that protect the product safely. At the same time, due to the wide sealing temperature range, it provides efficient and reliable processing on existing flow wrap machines. Skilful embellishment using flexographic, gravure or digital printing lends the film eye-catching optics at the point of sale.
rethink! – the Schur Flexibles initiative for more sustainable packaging
The entire portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions was developed as part of the Schur Flexibles rethink initiative. Max Wolfmaier, Sustainability Manager, concludes: “Our approach to developing new concepts has been successful. Our team of packaging specialists rethink existing solutions in collaboration with our customers for their specific requirements. This often involves not just finding a "simple" replacement for the films, but developing sustainable, tailor-made packaging concepts. A holistic approach is important to us.” By developing new packaging concepts that significantly save resources, the Schur Flexibles Group is moving step by step towards a more sustainable future together with its customers.
